Battlefield 6 is Getting a Free Trial From November 25 to December 2

Alongside releasing a major mid-season update for Battlefield 6, EA and Battlefield Studios have also announced that the multiplayer shooter will be getting a limited time free trial. The trial will be available between November 25 and December 2. Unlike a typical free trial, however, the one for Battlefield 6 won’t include the whole game. Rather, it will only feature 5 game modes and 3 maps.

“Later this month, players can jump into Battlefield 6 via a free trial,” announced the company through a press release. “From November 25 to December 2, a free trial experience of Battlefield 6 with select maps and modes will be available, featuring five modes and three maps. This is your chance to experience the high-octane multiplayer warfare of Battlefield 6 for an entire week for free.”

The update – dubbed California Resistance – brings Battlefield 6 up to version 1.1.2.0, and brings with it a host of new content along with a number of changes and bug fixes. The content added to the shooter include the new Southern California-themed Eastwood map available through all game modes, as well as a time-limited game mode dubbed Sabotage.

Headlining the changes made to Battlefield 6 in the update is the fact that the game’s aim assist has been reverted back to how it worked during the shooter’s open beta and Battlefield Labs playtests. In its announcement, the developers noted that the new aim assist system will serve as the baseline, which players can further customise to their own liking through in-game settings.

“At launch, we increased slowdown at longer ranges, but once the game went live, we saw that this made high-zoom aiming feel less smooth and harder to control,” wrote the developers in the patch notes.

“After reviewing player feedback and gameplay data, we’re reverting aim assist back to the values some of you experienced during Open Beta and Battlefield Labs. This will now serve as the default, whilst still providing you with the ability to alter the aim assist to your preference and playstyle via settings.”

Battlefield Studios has also been making changes in other areas of the shooter as well. Earlier this month, the developers announced that it was modifying several of the in-game Challenges and Assignments to ensure that they reward consistent play rather than just raw play time. To achieve this, challenge requirements saw “significant requirements” to reward skill-driven gameplay with appropriate progerssion.

“This update makes significant reductions to challenge requirements, cutting down on time investment while maintaining a focus on skill-driven progression that rewards consistent play,” explained Battlefield Studios. “Challenges and Assignments are tuned around defined playtime targets, and these changes bring their requirements in line with those goals to make them more achievable within a reasonable session length.”

The developers have also confirmed that they are working on fixes for other issues, including the terrain bouncing bug, class active abilities failing to trigger, and the FPS cap imposed by Nvidia Reflex.

Battlefield 6 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For more details, check out our review.
