A British Airways flight attendant, Haden Pentecost, 41, was suspended and later dismissed after being discovered naked and under the influence of drugs in a toilet during a transatlantic flight from California to London.
Before departure, Pentecost reportedly displayed concerning behaviour. He appeared agitated, sweating heavily, and incoherent, and failed to participate in the mandatory pre-flight safety checks. During the flight, he locked himself in a toilet, claiming stomach cramps. A colleague eventually discovered him completely naked, helped him dress, and moved him to an empty seat.
Due to concerns over his condition, the captain arranged for a health assessment mid-flight, and crew members monitored him closely throughout the journey. Upon landing at Heathrow, paramedics were waiting to provide care. Subsequent blood tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in Pentecost’s system. Following the incident, Pentecost pleaded guilty at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court to performing an aviation function while impaired by drugs. He was granted bail and is scheduled to be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court. British Airways terminated his employment following the incident.
The airline confirmed that the flight concluded safely, with no delays or danger to passengers.
