Alongside new extended gameplay for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft (via the PlayStation Blog) has provided details on its PS5 Pro support. It also outlined how Fidelity and Balanced modes will work on the PS5 (and, by extension, Xbox Series X/S).
Performance Mode on the base console doesn’t just run in upscaled 4K and 60 FPS. It also offers Selective Ray Tracing, with global illumination for defuse lighting at The Hideout. Fidelity Mode is an upscaled 2160p/30 FPS with Standard Ray Tracing, applying the same lighting to the game world. Balanced Mode, which requires a 120/240 Hz display and HDMI 2.1, also provides the same but at an upscaled 2160p/40 FPS.
In Performance Mode, the PS5 Pro delivers Standard Ray Tracing at 2160p/60 FPS. While its Fidelity and Balanced Modes offer the same resolution and frame rate as the PS5, they include Extended Ray Tracing with global illumination for diffuse lighting and reflective surfaces. The latter is essentially the full ray tracing experience.
It’s unknown if the upscaler on PS5 Pro relies on PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Regardless, Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on March 20th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with reviews allegedly going live on March 18th.
