The number of breweries in Georgetown will soon dwindle from two to just one.
On Tuesday, Guanella Pass Brewery (501 Rose St.) announced its intent to close. The last day of service will be Feb. 2, according to a Facebook post. Its neighboring sister restaurant, Silverbrick Saloon at 505 Rose St., will also close that day.
“It’s time to say goodbye,” the Facebook post said. “Thank you for your support during this wonderful journey and we look forward to seeing you during these last remaining days.”
A representative from the businesses could not immediately be reached to comment on the circumstances of the closure.
Opened in 2017, Guanella Pass Brewery was billed as the first brewery to open in Georgetown since Prohibition. It served residents as well as regional tourists who drive its namesake road during leaf-peeping season. Located near where the road starts to climb up the pass, the brewery has been “a great place for hydration recovery on a patio with aspen views,” The Denver Post previously noted.
The brewery expanded with a second satellite taproom in the small town of Empire in 2020, but recently it struggled financially. In late 2023, the business filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, BusinessDen reported.
According to the Colorado Beverage Coalition, 41 local breweries closed in 2024 and 140 have closed since the pandemic. Just last week, Incantation Brewing announced the closing of both its Aurora production facility and its coffee shop/taproom in Denver.
The only remaining brewery in Georgetown is now Cabin Creek Brewing, per the Colorado Brewery List.
