Today, February 19, Apple has announced the iPhone 16e, an affordable yet powerful addition to the iPhone 16 lineup.
The device features the latest A18 chip, Apple Intelligence, and a 48MP 2-in-1 camera system. It’s an appealing option for users seeking high performance, but at a lower price point.
iPhone 16e: Budget-friendly with efficient features
The iPhone 16e is powered by the A18 chip, delivering smooth performance and improved energy efficiency. It’s also equipped with Apple’s first in-house cellular modem, the C1, which Apple claims is the most power-efficient modem ever used in an iPhone. Built for Apple Intelligence, the device integrates AI-powered personalisation while maintaining a strong focus on privacy.
iPhone 16e: Superior camera and extended battery life
Apple has fitted the iPhone 16e with a 48MP Fusion camera, which includes a 2x optical zoom feature, effectively offering two cameras in one. The camera supports advanced computational photography, Night mode, and Portrait mode for enhanced image quality. Additionally, the device boasts the best battery life ever in a 6.1-inch iPhone, reportedly lasting up to six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and 12 hours longer than the iPhone SE.
iPhone 16e: Durable, dust-resistant design
The iPhone 16e is built with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, a tough Ceramic Shield front cover, and reinforced back glass. It includes a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, providing an immersive viewing experience. The device also supports both wireless charging and USB-C, complying with EU regulations on universal charging standards.
iPhone 16e: Advanced AI and Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence enhances the iPhone 16e experience with features like the Clean Up tool for image editing, advanced Siri interactions, and natural language search in Photos. The device also integrates ChatGPT within Writing Tools and Siri, allowing users to access AI-powered assistance without needing a separate account.
iPhone 16e: Safety and connectivity enhancements
The iPhone 16e supports Apple’s satellite communication features, including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and Messages via satellite, ensuring users can stay connected even in remote locations. It also includes Crash Detection, which automatically contacts emergency services in the event of a severe car accident.
Sustainable iPhone 16e
As part of Apple’s environmental initiatives, the iPhone 16e is designed with over 30 per cent recycled materials, including 100 per cent recycled cobalt in the battery and 85 per cent recycled aluminium in its enclosure. The packaging is now fully fibre-based, aligning with Apple’s goal to eliminate plastic packaging by the end of the year.
How much is the new iPhone 16e?
The iPhone 16e will be available in two matte finishes – black and white – with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. Prices start at $599 (approximately €550).
