The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Ultra smartphones may have been given a sneaky charging upgrade.
For several years now there have been widespread grumbles over Samsung’s flagship smartphone charging provision, which hasn’t drastically changed in quite a while.
When they arrived in January, the Galaxy S25 range didn’t appear to change any of that. Both the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Plus, in particular, continue to be restricted to a fairly middling 45W wired charging standard.
However, Samsung may have sneaked in a small but welcome upgrade. While you still don’t get a charging brick in either box (though that in itself isn’t unusual in 2025), Sammyguru claims that the bundled USB-C to USB-C cable is markedly better than before.

How Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Plus charging has been improved
Both the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus shipped with 25W cables in the box, meaning they couldn’t be relied upon to achieve the maximum charging speeds even if you had a suitably rapid plug to hand.
With the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Plus, however, you apparently now get a proper 15V/3A USB-C cable that’s up to the task of charging at the full 45W. All you’ll need to do is find a charging source that’s capable of the job.
Of course, Samsung still lags behind many of its rivals on the charging speed front. Most recently, the OnePlus 13 arrived with support for 100W charging, though again you’ll need to supply that charging brick yourself.
It’s slightly older and soon to be replaced, but last year’s Xiaomi 14 Ultra – perhaps the most direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in terms of raw specifications – came with a 90W HyperCharge adapter in the box.
Still, progress is progress from Samsung, even if the Galaxy S25 Ultra did make a worrying rollback elsewhere.
