In a world where there are lots of fears about AI, Google has powerfully shown how it can be a force for good.
Its Super Bowl ad, titled ‘Dream Job’, follows a father as he watches his daughter grow up, culminating in a moment where she leaves for university. As he navigates the challenges of change, he leans on Google’s Gemini Live feature to prepare for a job interview.
The AI assists him by acting as a conversation partner, helping him build confidence and refine his answers. However, rather than portraying AI as a cold, mechanical assistant, the advert frames it as an empowering tool that provides support in moments of uncertainty.
Google makes it clear that Gemini Live is not about replacing real conversations but about giving people the tools to prepare for them. It acts as a sounding board, helping those who may feel lonely or anxious about social interactions to practise and improve.
Whether it’s preparing for a job interview, practising public speaking or simply working on your communication skills, AI is presented as a supportive friend rather than some kind of force that will take your job or replace face-to-face interactions.
Google’s approach, at a time when tens of millions of eyes were on it, is refreshing.

Another thing that’s great about this commercial is its statement about how AI can be used responsibly. While it continues to evolve, it should never replace the genuine, irreplaceable connections that make us human.
The father in the ad still seeks human connection and his relationship with his daughter remains at the heart of the story. The AI simply acts as a tool to help him navigate an important transition in his life.
It’s clear that the most important way we can all use AI is to enhance what we already care about. Its ultimate goal should be to help connect people, not replace them.
