Earlier in the day, Vance attended the swearing-in of senators at the U.S. Capitol.
Vice President-elect JD Vance underwent a planned surgery after attending the kickoff to the new Congress, according to his spokesperson on Friday.
Vance was admitted to George Washington Hospital in the afternoon.
“The Vice President-elect is having long-planned, minor sinus surgery and will be back at work tomorrow,” William Martin, Vance’s spokesperson, told Fox News.
NTD, The Epoch Times’ sister media, reached out to Vance’s communications director for a statement and did not receive an immediate response.
Earlier in the day, Vance attended the swearing-in of senators at the U.S. Capitol.
Vice President Kamala Harris, as head of the Senate, presided over the senatorial swearing-in ceremony.
Vance later shared an image of the moment that captured him smiling and laughing with his colleagues as Harris administered the oath of office on the Senate floor.
McCormick, 59, flipped the Pennsylvania Senate seat, narrowly defeating incumbent Sen. Bob Casey. Moreno, 57, defeated incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown in the November election.
President-elect Donald Trump tapped Vance, 39, as his running mate in July, citing his military service, law degree, and business career.
The junior senator from Ohio was first elected to the Senate in 2022. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will appoint someone to fill Vance’s vacant Senate seat until a special election in 2026. The winner of that election will serve the remainder of Vance’s term and would have to run again for the seat in 2028.
Vance’s sinus procedure was held after a big day on Capitol Hill. In addition to senators, newly elected members of the House of Representatives were also sworn in and Mike Johnson was also reelected as speaker of the House.
The vice president-elect will take his own oath of office during Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
