Melvin “Wayne” Osmond, a cherished member of the iconic family music group The Osmonds, has passed away at the age of 73.
Wayne reportedly died peacefully on New Year’s Day, surrounded by his wife, Kathlyn White, and their five children. The family confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement shared with multiple outlets, expressing, “His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter has influenced the lives of many people around the world.”

Wayne, born on August 28, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, was the second-oldest of the original Osmond Brothers quartet and the fourth oldest among nine Osmond siblings. Known for his exceptional guitar skills and perfect pitch, Wayne helped propel the group to international fame in the 1970s. Alongside his brothers (Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, and Jimmy), Wayne was instrumental in creating hits like One Bad Apple, Down by the Lazy River, and Love Me for a Reason. Their energetic performances and wholesome image earned them a dedicated global fanbase for several decades.
Wayne Osmond’s health challenges
Throughout his life, Wayne faced significant health challenges. Diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1997, he underwent surgery and radiation, which caused near-total hearing loss. Despite these obstacles, he returned to performing just six months after treatment, showcasing remarkable resilience. In 2012, Wayne suffered a stroke that further impacted his ability to play the guitar. His cause of death has not been confirmed, but it was reported that he experienced a “massive stroke” shortly before his passing.
Wayne Osmond’s personal life
Wayne married former Miss Utah, Kathlyn White, in 1974, and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2024. Together, they raised three daughters and two sons.
