Well folks, it is now official, Chelsea are SECOND in the Premier League at Christmas time.
That fact is something that not one single person in the entire world would have predicted. If anyone claims they did, then they are lying.
And for Chelsea to be second in the Premier League at Christmas time, someone needs to get a top hat and put it on Enzo Maresca, because the guy is a damned magician!
Starting the season, if I go back to all of our predictions, I think the majority were saying top 7 finish for Chelsea this season. There is still a long way to go of course and there will be more ups and downs, but I think we can safely say that we are now challenging for top four this season, something that very few of us expected to see.
Maresca deserves massive props for that. He has come in against all the odds, under some criticism, under plenty of doubt by fans, some even calling him just a ‘championship manager’, and he has proven a lot of people wrong. He has done what many others could not do before him. He has got this young team performing, and he has got them performing well most of the time.
This time of the year is always a good time for reflection, and I think the owners will be on cloud nine looking at how well their risky hire has done. This could have backfired massively, and I guess there is always a chance that it still might. But it is a fact that right now, their hire has proven to be a great decision, and Maresca has worked absolute wonders at our club so far.
