OVER 1000 American Airlines flights have been delayed and some cancelled completely on Christmas Eve.
After a country-wide halt on American Airline flights in the US, the good news is services have resumed with only short delays, meaning people will still reach their families in time for Christmas.
The delays couldn’t have come at a worse time, as, according to aviation statistics body Cirium, American Airlines had 3,300 domestic flights booked to fly out today.
According to the Allied Pilots association, who represent thousands of American Airline’s Pilots, technical issue with the FOS grounded flights and caused the mass delays.
The FOS or Flight Operation System, is a system that is vital in the process of a plane’s departure from an airport, it even covers things like passenger boarding.
Although over 1000 flights saw delays only 26 were completely cancelled.
American Airlines Spokesperson Sarah Jantz said: “It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible.”
And that customers should be on their way with minimal disruption, “Expect some delays throughout the day but we’re working to mitigate those and avoid cancels.” Said Jantz.
She trusts the American Airline team to get people and flights back on track, saying: “we have the staffing to support a quick recovery.”
At time of writing this FlightAware a flight statistics site shows only major delays at one American Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International, where those waiting times are being put down to bad weather.
