Critical Role’s publishing arm, Darrington Press, announced their Tal’Dorei Reborn sourcebook will be available to play on the Alchemy Virtual Tabletop. The Dungeons & Dragons 5e setting guide — which was first produced by Green Ronin in 2017 before being “reborn” in 2022 — explores the continent of Exandria where Critical Role’s first campaign took place. Set decades after the adventures of Vox Machina, this virtual edition of Tal’Dorei Reborn claims to offer players an immersive experience, building off Alchemy’s reputation as a VTT with a focus on high-quality audio-visual assets like maps and music.
The setting guide dives deep into the history of Tal’Dorei, providing insight into the gods, factions, creatures, and characters who call the continent home — including stat blocks and lore for Vox Machina. Each major region of Tal’Dorei has its own guide, offering story hooks for players to follow in the footsteps of their favorite actual play or to forge ahead with a story of their own. The book also offers additional subclasses, backgrounds, and magic items for dungeon masters to throw into their campaigns. This announcement brings the total number of Tal’Dorei Reborn’s VTT conversions to four, with the sourcebook also available on Roll20, D&D Beyond, and Demiplane.
While Critical Role is best known for their intricate battle maps, Alchemy is more suited towards theater-of-the-mind play. Rather than tactical combat grids like those found on D&D Beyond, Alchemy incorporates bespoke motion overlays, scenic backgrounds, and ambient soundtracks into play. Though relatively new compared to some other, more ubiquitous VTTs like Roll20, Alchemy has become the go-to partner for many third party D&D and non-Hasbro tabletop publishers like Free League, Modiphius, and Hit Point Press. They also have a range of settings from international publishers like the Italian, Ennie-award winning Two Little Mice, alongside system agnostic assets like those by patreon darling Czepeku.
