Three seasons of The Legend of Vox Machina have brought sorcerers, elves, gnomes, vampires, sphinxes, and dragons, as well as raunchy dialogue, dirty humour and some astounding songs. All indications are that the series’ fourth season, now officially announced by Amazon, will feature even more unusual creatures and memorable moments.
In 2022, the first instalment of The Legend of Vox Machina was launched on Prime Video, resulting in enormous success. Critical Role, the web series from which it originated, and which was created by voice-actor friends, had a dedicated fan base. However, the Amazon series needed to break through to a broader audience. And it did – the crazy animated show about a group of Dungeons & Dragons characters has got a lot of buzz.
But what awaits fans in season 4? We have gathered the most important information about the new instalment of Amazon’s show.
The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 release date
Amazon has green-lit a fourth season of the series, but so far hasn’t announced when it could premiere.
Season 2 came just a year after the premiere of season 1. However, fans had to wait almost two years for season 3. The SAG-AFTRA strike caused the delay, so season 4 may appear earlier, perhaps as early as fall 2025.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 plot
In season 3, Vox Machina finally managed to defeat the Chroma Conclave. After killing Thordak, the group set out to find the cunning Raishan, who, as it turned out, had been plotting all along. However, during the fight in the ziggurat, the team killed the dragoness, who took over Thordak’s dead body.
What’s more, in the season finale, Vax travelled to the realm of the demon Orthax to free Percy’s soul – thus, the gunslinger was brought back to life.
After the destruction of the Chroma Conclave, the members of Vox Machina went their separate ways. Scanlan decided to go on the voyage with his daughter, Kaylie. Percy and Vex settled in Whitestone for some time while Vax decided to accompany Keyleth on her Aramenté journey. Pike, on the other hand, stayed with her best buddy, Grog, although their plans haven’t been clarified.
Critical Role isn’t revealing its plans for season 4 for now, but we can guess some things.
Prime Video
The creators included a massive cliffhanger in the final episode of season 3. In a scene set in a secret chamber, a group of people with blindfolded and bleeding eyes were summoning a mysterious being. The strange entity materialised indeed, and in a sudden flash of light, we could see its skull adorned with a tiara.
As Dungeons & Dragons fans may have easily guessed, the demonic entity is…. Vecna. The name will also sound familiar to Stranger Things fans, a series heavily inspired by the cult game. In the world of Vox Machina, the entity is known as The Whispered One – Critical Role doesn’t own the copyright to the character’s official name.
Vecna, aka The Whispered One, was once a human king and necromancer who transformed into a powerful lich – an undead mage who hid his soul in a reliquary. This creature already appeared at the end of the first season of Legend of Vox Machina – The Whispered One was then summoned by Delilah Briarwood. Apparently, in season 4, he and his followers will be the main enemies of the heroes.
However, this isn’t the only sinister being that will stand in the way of Vox Machina. Likely, the gang will once again meet Zerxus Ilerez, the devil-collector deeply interested in possessing Pike’s soul.
Prime Video
Another vital plotline in the new season will surely be the deal between Vax and the Matron of Ravens and the price the half-elf has to pay for retrieving Percy’s soul. In the last episode of season 3, a mysterious dark mark was growing on Vax’s arm, which can’t be a sign of anything good.
Of course, season 4 will consist of more than chases, fights and escapes. We’ll see how Keyleth’s Aramenté journey will turn out. We can also count on continuing the relationships between Keyleth and Vax, Percy and Vex, and Scanlan and his daughter Kaylie and (possible) Pike.

Will there be The Legend of Vox Machina season 5?
So far, Amazon hasn’t revealed whether the mercenary group will return for season 5. For information on this subject we have to wait at least until the premiere of the first episodes of season 4 – their viewership will determine the further fate of the series.
However, fans shouldn’t worry – all indications are that you won’t have to leave Exandria too soon. Another animated series based on Critical Role campaigns is currently in the works on Amazon. The Mighty Nein will tell the story of a group of criminals – the human wizard Caleb Widogast, goblin rogue Nott the Brave, human monk Beau Lionett, tiefling cleric Jester Lavorre, tiefling blood Molly Tealeaf, and barbarian Yasha Nydoorin and half-orc warlock Fjord.
According to the creators, The Mighty Nein will be a completely different story from The Legend of Vox Machina and will come as a real surprise to fans.
