Sandfall Interactive recently debuted some new gameplay for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, its upcoming fantasy RPG, showcasing more combat and story-telling. It also revealed a star-studded cast of actors, including Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Ben Starr (Final Fantasy 16), Jennifer English (Baldur’s Gate 3), and even the legendary Andy Serkis.
Of course, the visuals and aesthetics also look downright amazing. However, when pre-orders went live, some were surprised to see it retailing for $49.99 on Amazon. The developer has since clarified on Twitter that this is correct while promising over 30 hours of playtime for the main game. Side content is extra.
“We are a small team with an indie spirit, and we’re creating something we believe is truly special. We aren’t an AAA studio, this is our first game, and we want as many people to discover our world as possible.
“To be clear: we poured all our hearts and souls into this game. When you play Expedition 33, you can expect 30+ hours of the main game and as much side content for our completionist Expeditioners. Pricing that you see from your local retailers is accurate, and we can’t wait for you to get your hands on the game.”
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches in Spring 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The story follows the titular expedition as they embark on a journey to slay the Paintress, whose next work will end the world. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, combat is turn-based and involves mechanics like parrying, aiming at weak spots, dodging, and more.
