Samsung’s foldable phone game has been impressive lately.
Just when we thought the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 were its only folding devices of 2024, there’s news of something even better on the horizon. But hold your excitement – unless you live in South Korea or China, you’re probably not going to get your hands on it.
The device is rumoured to be known as the ‘Galaxy Fold6 Special Edition’, though the rest of the world might be left out.

For weeks, we’ve been hearing about a supposed ‘Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition’ set to drop on 25 September (via GalaxyClub and The Chosun, among others). That date came and went with no new foldable in sight, leading us to believe the leak might have been false.
Recently, however, a Korean retailer seemingly spilled the beans about a new foldable, but with a twist: they called it the ‘Galaxy Fold6 Special Edition.’
This foldable is supposedly opening for pre-orders in Korea from 18 to 24 October, with an official release date of 25 October. So, the earlier 25 September leak might not have been entirely wrong, but just a month premature.
However, the retailer page that hinted at this has since been taken down.
Keep in mind that this could by just a typo or a false rumour, so take it with a grain of salt. For now, we’ll just have to sit tight and see if the October timeline sticks.

If the rumours are true, the ‘Galaxy Fold6 Special Edition’ is a beast, even surpassing the already-impressive Galaxy Z Fold 6 in some key areas.
It’s said to feature a larger 8-inch internal folding screen and a 6.5-inch cover display, packed into a slimmer design that measures just 10.6mm when folded. For context, that’s significantly slimmer than the 13.4mm thickness of the Z Fold 6, and closer to the 9.2mm Honor Magic V3, which still leads the way in this regard.
But that’s not all. This supposed special edition might also come equipped with a 200Mp main lens, an upgrade on the Z Fold 6’s 50Mp camera.

However, if the leaks are accurate, the ‘Galaxy Fold6 Special Edition’ will only be available in South Korea and potentially China.
Why would Samsung limit such an exciting device to only two regions? It could be a strategic move to gauge market reception, or a way to create buzz through exclusivity.
Either way, it’s a tough pill to swallow for Samsung fans worldwide, most of whom probably won’t get a chance to experience this more powerful, streamlined foldable.

You can, however, experience the latest of the Samsung’s foldable tech with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, which are both available to buy right now in the UK and US.
Instead of an even more premium version, Samsung may be gearing up to release a more affordable model instead, potentially known as the Galaxy Z Fold FE.
