Goals from Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Michael Olise and an own goal from Nicolai Remberg saw Bayern Munich beat Holstein Kiel 6-1 in the Bundesliga.
Kane scored his first hat-trick of the season as Bayern moved top of the Bundesliga table with three wins from three.
Holstein Kiel did manage to grab a consolation goal in the closing stages but they were unable to repair the damage of a first half thrashing by the 33-time Bundesliga Champions.
Musiala wasted no time scoring just 20 seconds into the first half to add his name to the history books with the third fastest goal in Bundesliga history, whilst Kane doubled Bayern’s lead inside 10 minutes after some good work from Serge Gnabry on the right flank.
There was little respite for the home side when Nicolai Remberg’s own goal made it 3-0 with just 13 minutes on the clock. After terrific work from Musiala, the Bayern Munich star was able to make his way through a crowd of Kiel players before directing his pass off the foot of the Kiel midfielder.
Kane scored his second of the game after Kingsley Coman found Kane on the edge of the box, with the England international slotting it home before half-time.
There was much the same in regards to tempo in the second half, with plenty of opportunities and Bayern’s fifth of the game came from substitute Michael Olise, who was able to get on the end of Alphonso Davies’ shot at Kiel’s goalkeeper Weiner.
The home side were able to give their fans something to cheer about during the closing stages, with Armin Gigovic getting his head on a cross by Tymoteusz Puchacz.
As the game entered stoppage time, Bayern were still looking for a sixth and when Kane was brought down in the box by Carl Johannsson and referee Tobias Reichel awarded a penalty after a VAR check, Kane was more than happy to slot his third past Weiner from the spot.
Talking Point – Bayern quickly erasing last season’s disappointment
Whilst the Bundesliga title is hardly a done deal after this performance against a team likely to be battling in the bottom end of the table come the end of the season, there will be plenty of warning signs for Bayern’s rivals.
Vincent Kompany’s side looked back to their best, dominant across the field and rarely giving any time on the ball to their opponents. They looked hungry for more, despite leading by a healthy margin 20 minutes in and it could have been a much higher scoreline had the likes of Musiala and Gnabry not been taken off early ahead of their Champions League game against Dinamo Zagreb.
Player of the Match
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) It would be rude not to award Kane with player of the match after scoring his first hat-trick of the Bundesliga season. That’s four goals from three matches for the England forward as he looks to better his 36 goals from last season.
Other notable mentions go to Serge Gnabry who was unfortunate not to add his name to the list of goalscorers and an always dangerous Jamal Musiala.
