Apple’s latest launch event just wrapped up and for September the iPhone 16 and Apple Watch Series 10 stole most of the limelight. However, and to my surprise, another new product caught my eye the most.
Many fans will have been hoping for an Apple Watch Ultra 3 reveal but it didn’t happen. Instead, we got a new colourway of the Ultra 2 and it’s this that I’ve found myself craving more than any of the other shiny new fruit-flavoured gadgets.
The new edition is Black Titanium and simply looks stunning with its stealthy satin black finish. It’s not that the existing Ultra in the natural finish is bad, but it just never did much for me.
It was the black and orange colourway of the Samsung Galaxy Ultra that most took my fancy so this is an unsurprising development, it’s just no one was expecting this announcement at today’s keynote.
That satin finish is achieved with a ‘custom blasting process’ and Apple says “the diamond-like carbon physical vapor deposition coating over the grade 5 titanium makes it scratch-resistant and durable.”
Meanwhile, the “back crystal is made from a matching, dark zirconia.”
Well, I don’t really care what it’s made of but it looks incredible, with the orange Action Button popping even more – at least in Apple’s high-resolution images anyway.
The Black Titanium Ultra 2 is paired with updated Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band straps featuring black hardware and there’s also a new Black Titanium Milanese Loop (available in Natural or Black Titanium).
I never thought I’d want an Apple Watch Ultra, but look at me now… and I bet this is the model James Bond would wear, too.
