Over the past few seasons, Chelsea haven’t been at their usual selves of fighting for leagues and trophies, not managing to make even the top four in the last three seasons. Despite getting to multiple finals, losing out to Liverpool in each one caused further pain for Chelsea supporters, feeling like this never ending cycle won’t end.
But if other clubs have shown, there’s still every chance Chelsea can once again return to the summit of the Premier League and fight for titles in the near future, however this will take time, planning and minimal mistakes if they’re to achieve this. Chelsea are one of the greats of the Premier League and with numerous titles under their belt, it’s time they got back to where they belong. And just like playing slots online, there’s no better feeling than winning.
In this article we’ll be taking a look into what Chelsea need to do to improve on last season and get back to winning ways and become title challengers again.
Sign a world class striker
One thing we saw from last season is how much Chelsea missed that world class striker up front. Whilst Jackson does have potential and it’s clear to see, he’s far from the finished article. Despite hitting 14 goals last season, there were so many chances that were missed, and if those chances were taken, it could’ve propelled Chelsea up the table. At 23, he’s still got so much to learn, and having a world class striker to teach him and to learn off could be critical for both him and Chelsea.
For example someone like Victor Osimhen from Napoli could be the ideal striker to bring in, he brings a vast amount of experience along with the ability to really lead that Chelsea front line with confidence. With the likes of Sterling, Palmer and Nkunku all supporting him, it could be a really deadly attacking outfit.
Get rid of deadwood
Chelsea have been known in recent years to both horde and keep bringing in new players before moving on the old ones. There are numerous players that they could sell on to reduce the wage budget, increase transfer funds and make room for newer players in the squad. With one of the biggest squads last season, it can be very difficult for any manager to keep that many players happy as there’s only so many players you can field at one time.
We suggest Chelsea cut a large number of players who they don’t feel will either make a massive impact or play in the future. And whilst there is a risk of such players going on to make a name for themselves like Salah, De Bruyne who all left and had incredible careers, it’s a risk worth taking.
Following on from this, it’s also been known for Chelsea to have a larger than usual list of players loaned out, they need to go through returning loaned players and really decide if they have a future, and if not, move them on to a new club.
Change how players are scouted
Chelsea have a bad habit of signing players for large fees that simply not up to the standard they require. Such signings as Mudryk and Sterling were signed for large fees and have yet to hit the heights required. Numerous defenders have also been signed for big fees and wages and have hardly featured. Whilst some of these players are young, for example Chelsea paid an initial £62 million for Mudryk with another potential £26 million in add ons. This means he could reach £88 million. For this amount, you expect the player to be one of the best in the league and hitting the ground running.
Chelsea need to look at how they scout players and change this, looking for players that can both make an impact now and in the future and buy more smartly. For example Liverpool only go after the player they want, and if they don’t manage to get him, they wait. They don’t panic buy and generally don’t make many mistakes in purchases, however compared to Chelsea, there have been numerous players that haven’t worked out that cost a lot.
Stick with the manager
It’s as simple as the managerial merry go round has to stop. They’ve had a history of sacking managers and hiring new ones each season, and this needs to come to an end. Managers aren’t walking into the finished product and need time to implement their own style on the players and the club. Sacking the manager in the first 6 months and hiring someone else is just pushing success further and further back. They need to stick with a manager and really give them time to create their own thing.
