But while young children often use more basic devices or equipment supplied by schools, university/college might be the first time your children need gadgets of their own.

And it can get expensive, with most students needing at least a reliable smartphone and laptop to stay productive and enjoy their time away from home. Many will also be in the market for a new tablet.

Samsung devices might be near the top of your list, but don’t get put off by the high prices. The company has generous student discount schemes in both the UK and US, with the former expanding availability to include anyone aged 16-26.

How anyone aged 16-26 can get a Samsung discount in the UK

Samsung’s discount scheme is simply known in the UK as ‘Samsung Student, Youth & Teacher Discounts’. Not only does it apply to students in full-time education, any teacher or person aged between 16 and 26 is eligible.

To sign up, simply head to the Samsung student offers page and click ‘Get Verified’. Choose which category applies to you, then enter and verify your mobile number. Then, upload a valid photo ID, verify your student status via Unidays or enter an academic email address to unlock the discounts.

After this has been processed and verification complete, you can look forward to some excellent discounts.

At the time of writing, there’s 5% off the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and free Galaxy Watch 6 (usually £269), 20% off the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra when you enter the code ‘SUMMER’ at checkout, or 10% off the entire Galaxy Book 4 laptop range with a free pair of Buds FE wireless earbuds (usually £66) thrown in.

You can also trade in smartphones, tablets and smartwatches to get a discount. It doesn’t have to be Samsung’s own devices: you can trade in Apple, Google, OnePlus, Xiaomi and others. Just go to the Trade-In page and give Samsung the details of the device you want to use. Then you’ll get a quote back straight-away.

How to get a Samsung discount in the US

A similar offer is available in the US, where it’s known as the ‘Education Offer Program’. However, this only applies to students, teachers and administrators, so other young people aren’t eligible.

To sign up, head to the Samsung Education Offer Program page and scroll down until you see ‘Step 1’. Enter your .edu email address to see your organization is registered. Even if it’s not, you’ll still be able to get the discount.

Scroll down to ‘Step 2’ and click ‘Sign up now’. Create a Samsung account using either your .edu email address (even if not eligible according to previous step) or a personal one. If you choose the latter, you’ll need to complete ID.me verification at checkout.

Once verified, you’ll unlock loads of exciting discounts. At the time of writing, you can get up to $800 off the Galaxy Z Flip 6, up to $950 off the Galaxy Tab S9 Series and up to $500 off the Galaxy Book 4 Edge laptop.
