Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just exploded with Deadpool and Wolverine, and head honcho Kevin Feige has made some huge announcements for Phase Six, which (so far) covers from Spring 2025 to 2027.
These films have gone through several date changes and title alterations, but the biggest shake-up came during Marvel’s Hall H panel at Comic-Con San Diego 2024. The fifth Avengers film, The Kang Dynasty, has been completely wiped from Marvel’s schedule.
This is due to the controversies surrounding Jonathan Majors, who was dropped by Marvel after he was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree.
The fifth Avengers movie will still go ahead, but Kang will not be the villain – as previous films and TV series would have led us to believe.

Fantastic Four
Cinema release date: 25 July 2025
Starring: Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), Ralph Ineson (Galactus)
Marvel confirmed that it was creating a Fantastic Four movie back in 2020, with Matt Shakman directing. This MCU adaptation of the Fab Four will take place in the swinging sixties, with a retrofuturistic twist.
It will be set in a separate universe from the sacred timeline, and the Fantasticar will make an appearance. The villain is Galactus, an entity that can devour entire planets. Previous Fantastic Four films have featured Doctor Doom as the villain, who will not be the main antagonist of this film… and there’s a key reason for that.
Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel fan-favourite Robert Downey Jr is returning to the MCU, but not as Iron Man. Instead, he’ll play the iconic villain, Doctor Doom.
The most likely explanation for his casting in the story is that he’s a variant of Tony Stark, who uses his intelligence and brilliance for evil rather than good. However, we don’t yet know that for sure.
He’ll be joined by the cast of The Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts*. But that’s not all – the Russo brothers will also return to direct both Avengers 5 and 6.
Avengers: Secret Wars
Cinema release date: 7 May 2027
Starring: TBA
The sixth Avengers film is titled after a comics arc that focuses on an alien, shapeshifting race called the Skrulls, who infiltrate the world and replace members of the government – as well as the Avengers. It could end up that some of our heroes aren’t who we think they are…
What other Marvel projects are in the works?
There are several other Marvel films and shows which we know are coming, but have not yet been given specific release dates. That could mean that some of these will come a little earlier than the movies above, and will fit into Phase Five.
