Spider-Man is best known for its film adaptations. All three series, led by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland respectively, were well-received by fans. Moreover, the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are among the best superhero movies ever made.
With its latest project, Sony has set a new path for the beloved hero. The Spider-Noir, previously known as Noir, will be the first live-action series featuring Peter Parker. What’s more, it will take Spidey out of his familiar environment and put him in the grim reality of the 1930s US.
The Spider-Man Noir first appeared on screen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as a version of Peter Parker from a different reality. The grim superhero was voiced by Nicolas Cage, who was received well by fans.
It seems that Sony has taken note of the voices of admiration – the actor will reprise his role in the Spider-Man Noir standalone live-action series.
Spider-Noir is developed by Sony in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video. Continue reading, if you want to learn more about the series.
When could the Spider-Noir series be released?
The Spider-Man show is in a very early stage of development, so no release window has been announced yet.
If production continues to move along at a steady pace, there’s a chance that it could premiere in late 2025/early 2026 – but this is just an estimation. Spider-Noir will be available first on MGM+’s linear channel, and then on Amazon Prime Video.
What will the plot of the Spider-Noir series be?
The series is based on the Spider-Man Noir comic books, which are part of the Marvel Noir universe – the franchise branch inspired by film noir and pulp fiction.
Published between 2009 and 2010, the miniseries features the alternate version of Peter Parker. He lives in 1930s New York City, consumed by the Great Depression. Spider-Man gains his powers during one of his investigations for the Daily Bugle newspaper – he is bitten by a venomous spider hidden in an antique artefact stolen by criminals.
Amazon’s series will show Peter Parker as a life-weary, aging detective who looks back on his life as the only superhero in city.
Who are the cast and the crew of the Spider-Noir series?
Nicolas Cage will be the main star in the Amazon series, portraying Spider-Man Noir. Cage’s appearance in the series will mark his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe – in 2011, the actor played the main character in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
On-screen, Cage will be accompanied by Brendan Gleeson, who you may know from the Harry Potter film series and The Banshees of Inisherin. According to rumours, he will play the villain.
Lamorne Morris, who you may have recently seen in Fargo season 4, also has joined the cast. He will portray Robbie Robertson, an editor in the Daily Bugle newspaper.
Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) will be the showrunners. They will executive-produce Spider-Not alongside Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, the brains behind Into the Spider-Verse.
The first two episodes will be directed by Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag).
