Want to climb Africa’s highest mountain? Getting to Kilimanjaro from Europe is about to get easier

Tackling Africa’s highest mountain is on many people’s bucket list. If you count yourself among them, we have good news, as reaching Kilimanjaro from Europe is about to get easier.

That’s because three airlines are launching new routes to northern Tanzania, including one that starts early next month.

From 3 June, Brussels Airlines will connect the Belgian capital to Kilimanjaro International Airport twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“Sub-Saharan Africa is our second home, and we’re happy to add an attractive destination to our network on this beautiful continent,” Brussels Airlines CEO Dorothea von Boxberg said in a statement.

“Tanzania is a top destination for safaris, and we’re proud to contribute to the local economy by connecting Kilimanjaro to Brussels and beyond.”

Italian airline Neos is also set to launch a seasonal route between 14 July and 20 October. Running once a week, the flight will operate between Milan Malpensa and Kilimanjaro before continuing on to Zanzibar.

The latest airline to announce a new route to Europe is Air Tanzania. Flights between London Gatwick and Kilimanjaro International Airport will launch in July 2027, with a minimum of three flights per week.

According to Peter Ulanga, the CEO of Air Tanzania, “various EU cities” are also under consideration.

Other tourist hot spots opened up by the new Kilimanjaro flight routes

While Kilimanjaro is a beautiful sight, the new routes also make it easier to reach several other tourism hot spots within the country.

This part of Tanzania is famed for the northern safari circuit, which includes Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park.

Here, you’ll be able to see the largest annual animal migration in the world when more than 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebra pass through the area.
