Galatasaray star Noa Lang has posted a photograph of himself and team-mate Victor Osimhen after they both went to hospital with serious injuries sustained against Liverpool

Noa Lang has shared a photo of himself wearing a cast on his hand after undergoing surgery on a serious thumb injury. Lang needed oxygen and had to be stretchered off after sustaining a gruesome injury in Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat by Liverpool on Wednesday night.

He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery on a “serious cut” to his thumb, which was sustained when he collided with the advertising hoardings at Anfield during the latter stages of the last-16 Champions League tie.

The 26-year-old was in agony and Galatasaray have since threatened to file a lawsuit against UEFA. Lang has been recovering since the surgery to his right thumb at Whiston Hospital and posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: “Surgery went well! Thanks for all the messages.” He’d previously posted: “S*** happens.”

Lang wasn’t the only Galatasaray player to suffer a serious injury during the match, with striker Victor Osimhen also withdrawn due an arm problem, which the club later confirmed was a fractured forearm.

The two stricken team-mates shared a Facetime call on Thursday and appear to have taken comfort at finding themselves in a similar situation to each other. Posting a screenshot of them both grinning and holding up their casts, Lang wrote “twin” with a heart emoji while tagging Osimhen.

While the players are trying to stay positive, Galatasaray are considering their options after Lang’s freak injury. “We made a complaint to UEFA representatives after the match. They also made their investigations,” club general secretary Eray Yazgan said.

“UEFA will evaluate the issue. We are in talks with lawyers. We will file a lawsuit for compensation to UEFA. We will ask for our victimization in terms of salary to be eliminated.”

A club statement on both players read: “In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.

“After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player’s right forearm, and it was casted. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.

“In the second half of the same match, our player Noa Lang, who suffered an injury, sustained a serious cut to his right thumb, and it is planned for him to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours with the participation of our medical team.”
