Brigitte Bardot was one of the most famous sex symbols of the 1960s. The French actress began modeling as a teenager, and her breakout role came in 1956 when she was in her early 20s when she starred in And God Created Woman. The film turned her into an international star, and she went on to many more critically-acclaimed roles, including Le Mepris in 1963, and Viva Maria! in 1965, which earned her a Best Foreign Actress nomination at the BAFTAs.
Brigitte stepped away from acting in 1973 to become an outspoken animal rights activist, even setting up the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, dedicated to protecting animals. She had also been romantically linked with many different celebrities over the years, before marrying her fourth husband, right-wing politician Bernard d’Ormale.
Unfortunately, Brigitte died on December 28, 2025. She was 91. Scroll through our gallery below to see photos of Brigitte throughout her life.
