Cybersecurity giant Proofpoint is continuing to expand operations by launching an AI innovation centre out of its Cork-based international hub.
The expansion is creating 45 specialist roles at the newly established centre, including data scientists, AI and large language model experts. The company plans for a growth trajectory with up to 100 additional roles over the coming years.
Proofpoint will also bring a security operations team to its Cork hub and increase roles in other functions, such as its data security team, the company said.
As part of this, the US-headquartered company is expanding its office space in the city. The expansion is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
Proofpoint’s AI innovation centre will enable the company to acquire larger data sets to train its AI and machine learning models, the company said. It claims that the centre will create a “privacy-attested” environment to ensure the training data remains anonymous.
“The ongoing expansion of Proofpoint in Cork is a clear reflection of Ireland’s continued success in attracting world-class companies to establish their international hubs here,” said Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke, TD.
“The creation of up to 100 new roles in the coming years, including in AI and large language models, further strengthens our position as a global technology and innovation hub.”
The company opened its Cork international hub a year ago, announcing plans to create 250 jobs in the two years that follow, along with continued investment in the region.
