Cards Against Humanity releasing free deck roasting Elon Musk over SpaceX lawsuit

Thirteen months after Cards Against Humanity initiated a $15 million dollar lawsuit against SpaceX for trespassing on land owned by the card game’s creators, the two companies have reached a settlement, according to court documents and a recent blog post from Cards Against Humanity.

Cards Against Humanity originally acquired the land (which is located near the U.S.-Mexico border) in 2017 via crowdfunding, with the goal of blocking Donald Trump’s proposed border wall. In September 2024, the card-maker discovered that Elon Musk’s SpaceX had dumped “space garbage” on the land, spreading gravel and parking vehicles on CAH’s property. Cards Against Humanity filed a lawsuit, pledged that anyone who had contributed to the crowdfunding campaign for the land’s purchase would get a cut of the settlement.

Simply titled “Musk Update,” the blog post reveals that although Cards Against Humanity didn’t walk away with enough cash to pay out crowdfunders, it did successfully evict Musk’s company from the land.

“Dear Horrible friends, remember last year, when we sued Elon Musk for dumping space garbage all over your land, and then you signed up to collect your share of the proceeds?” the blog post reads. “Also, remember how we warned you that we’d ‘probably only be able to get you like two dollars or most likely nothing’? Well, Elon Musk’s team admitted on the record that they illegally trespassed on your land, and then they packed up the space garbage and fucked off. But when it comes to paying you all, he did the legal equivalent of throwing dust in our eyes and kicking us in the balls.”

In lieu of payment, Cards Against Humanity is instead offering those who crowdfunded the land purchase a new Cards Against Humanity card pack, free of charge. The new pack is entirely made up of cards related to Elon Musk, and is set to ship sometime in early 2026.

“While we can’t give you what you really wanted — cash money from Elon Musk — we’re going to make it up to you, our best, sexiest customers…with comedy!” the post continues. “We’re sending you each a brand new mini-pack of exclusive cards all about Elon Musk, which you can sign up to receive for free right here.”

Neither Musk nor SpaceX have publicly commented on the settlement, and according to Cards Against Humanity, one condition of the settlement is that both parties agree not to discuss its details, including the dollar amount. Cards Against Humanity did, however, provide an update on the state of the recently vacated land: “Soon, the land will be returned to its natural state: no space garbage, and still completely free of pointless fucking border walls.”
