Time to hear from former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin, who is often in the media doing interviews these days.
Nevin has been asked about Chelsea’s rising star Estevao Willian, and Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite this week.
Unbelievable Estevao can be the next Neymar
Nevin: “Estevao has been exactly what I hoped for. I think he could be one of the best. It’s a lot to ask of a kid who’s 18, but he’s got everything, everything you need.
“Next off the Brazilian production line like Neymar. It’s a good solid start, but I’ll tell you what underlines it. I was at the Chelsea v Liverpool game just the other week and the ball went out to him and the noise in the stadium is different from every single other player.
“That is wow, not many can do that. So nice solid start, but he’s a kid that can go wherever he likes. He’s unbelievably good.”
Estevao can follow in the footsteps of Chelsea legends Zola and Hazard
Nevin: “Style-wise, Chelsea have got this long list from Gianfranco Zola, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata was much much loved down there. It goes all the way back to Charlie Cooke.
“Chelsea have got a whole list of these little creative players that they absolutely love.
“Estevao will be one of them. If Chelsea treat him right, if they stick by him, if he doesn’t get injured, he will be in that pantheon. There’s a couple of ifs in there, but definitely capable.
“Which one of them is he more like? He’s probably closer to Neymar. He’s not really like them. But creative, small, playing for Chelsea and could be world class very soon.
“He’s up there and he should be one of them because he’s good enough.”
I’d hate to see Jordan Pickford at Chelsea – they should go for Jarrad Branthwaite
Nevin: “You’re asking the right and the wrong person (about Jordan Pickford to Chelsea). I love Everton, it was the team I played for a long time. I’ve got real feelings for Chelsea, obviously.
“I would hate to see Jordan Pickford going to Chelsea, because I think he is the absolute rock. I think Chelsea would be a better fit to get in Jarrad Branthwaite.
“I think that would be better suited, he’s the right age, he’s an absolute top-class player. Obviously there’s been an injury this season.
“I think anyone would take him, I’ve said that for a year now, Branthwaite’s absolutely incredible. He ticks every single box for Chelsea. So yeah, you may look at Pickford because he’s the England goalkeeper and he’s really good etc.
“If I was running Chelsea, it’s Branthwaite I’d be looking for.”
Branthwaite has had a few injury problems which is what concerns me. But he is a superb centre back and the one I wanted to see us go for in the summer. Pickford I think is signing a new deal at Everton anyway.
