Battlefield 6 update will nerf XP farms, make progression easier

Since Battlefield 6 launched earlier this month, players have been complaining about how grind-heavy it is. Ranking up takes considerably longer than one might expect, with the XP requirements for each rank feeling higher than is reasonable, and the weapon assignment challenges to unlock a significant portion of the guns in the game are really difficult. Some players may not complete all of them if they play Battlefield 6 for its entire lifespan. Yes, that difficult.

The good news, however, is that the dev team appears to be listening. In an official update posted to social media, the Battlefield Team announced that match completion and daily bonus XP gains are being increased; XP required for the first 20 levels of weapon progression is being reduced; and assignments are now available earlier. Additionally, the team said that while changes aren’t imminent, developers are reviewing how difficult the weapon assignment challenges are to complete.

The developer also announced it’s cutting down on the number of “XP farm” servers, such as those we detailed in our guide on how to level up fast in Battlefield 6. Their reasons for this are twofold: Firstly, the sheer quantity of them led to maximum capacity being reached on community servers, so players looking for more unique Portal maps and experiences were unable to participate. Secondly, the team explained the “community experiences are a key part of what makes Battlefield 6 special,” and that “it’s meant to be a space for creativity, experimentation, and connection, where you can easily find and enjoy great modes with your friends and squadmates.”

Developers say they want to “reinforce player-driven experiences that bring people together,” aka not modes that simply game the progression mechanics.

The update to implement all this is due to go live “within the next week,” although it may come sooner depending on how testing goes. And for those of you concerned about other areas of Battlefield 6 such as “visibility, weapon bloom, vehicles not spawning, and more,” worry not. More details on updates and fixes for those are said to be coming soon.
