Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Will Come to All Platforms – Square Enix

Continuing on its strategies outlined back in 2024 of focusing on more multiplatform game releases, Square Enix has now confirmed that all of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will be making its way across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. This confirmation comes in the wake of the company having recently announced that the first title of the trilogy – Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade – will be coming to Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026.

Square Enix took to the official social media account for Final Fantasy 7 to make this announcement, essentially stating that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as well as the still-unnamed third game in the planned trilogy, will also be coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on day one of their release alongside the PS5 version.

For context, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has traditionally been released as a timed exclusive on PlayStation consoles, starting with the first game on PS4, and followed up by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5. Shortly after the initial release of the titles, Square Enix also ended up bringing both of them to PC. The PC versions of the epic RPG trilogy down the line will be available through both Steam as well as Epic Games Store.

Square Enix had first announced its plans to shift its game release strategy to a multiplatform one back in May 2024 in a briefing for a financial meeting at the time. Noting that both Final Fantasy 16 as well as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth failed to meet commercial expectations owing to their PS5-exclusive releases, the company announced that it will start bringing its games to more consoles and PC.

“We will shift to a multiplatform strategy,” said the company at the time. “In the case of HD games, we will create a global environment that allows more customers to enjoy our major franchises and AAA titles, including from our back catalog.”

During the same financial report, the company announced a new business plan that would focus on laying the foundations for its long-term growth. The plan revolves around four core pillars: optimising development of digital entertainment, strengthening customer contact points, creating more foundational stability, and striking a balance between shareholder returns and investment in growth.

As for what this means for the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, creative director Tetsuya Nomura had recently revealed during a live stream that development of the third title has been on track, and that there is also a scheduled announcement date. He said that development is “going very smoothly. The announcement timing has been decided and we will stick to that schedule, so please rest assured and wait.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was originally released on the PS4 back in 2020. The title essentially covered the earlier parts of the original Final Fantasy 7, giving us a prettier run through the events that happen in the city of Midgar. For more details, check out our review.
