In summaryHow realistic is a 15,000mAh battery?

The Chinese brand has been making noises about a smartphone with a larger-than usual battery capacity, which it will be showing off at a special Realme 828 Fan event being held tomorrow.

We knew that this cell was going to be larger than 10,000mAh, but a fresh X post has revealed an even more impressive capacity. It’s difficult to see unless you look a little closer, but the rear cover of the phone being used in this image reveals the magic 15,000mAh number.

Suffice to say, this is an insane capacity for a modern smartphone. Our favourite smartphone on the market is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with its 5,000mAh battery. This Realme prototype uses a cell with literally three times the capacity.

How realistic is a 15,000mAh battery?

While we’ve started seeing larger batteries in 2025 thanks to silicon-carbon battery technology, we still haven’t heard of anything this big. The Xiaomi 16’s battery will apparently be 7,000mAh, following on from the Nubia Redmagic 10 Pro with its 7,050mAh cell.

Either way, that’s still less than half what we’re talking about with Realme’s experimental phone.

Realme states that this huge battery will be sufficient to see you through 50 hours of non-stop streaming, which is quite the feat.

Whether we’ll see this kind of a capacity in a commercial product any time soon is another matter. It’s worth recalling that in 2018, it was quite normal for phones to pack 3,000mAh batteries. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra was one of the first mainstream phones to bump things up to 5000mAh in 2020, and it was considered pretty huge for the time.

Far more likely, for the next 12 months at least, is that we’ll see more phones getting to that 7,000mAh mark, which is still an appreciable improvement on the 5,000mAh norm.

The other thing to note is that a significantly larger battery such as this will take longer to charge, so hopefully Realme has brought its fast charging solution to bear. Back in 2023, the Realme GT Neo 5 and the Realme GT 3 boasted 240W charging, so perhaps it’s time the company resurrected that impressive standard.
