Accenture research finds demand for remote tech talent surges as Ireland’s technology sector evolves

Wendy Walsh, Accenture

New research from Accenture reveals a significant shift in Ireland’s technology sector, with remote-only roles increasing by 33.1% in the last six months, reflecting the growing importance of flexible work arrangements. The demand for technology professionals has also increased by 11.6% in that time.
The latest Accenture Talent Tracker highlights a dynamic and evolving tech landscape across Ireland. Over the past six months, several key trends have emerged in Ireland’s tech sector. Amid the growing trend of employers calling employees back to the office for more in-person workdays or even full-time, remote only roles have actually increased significantly across the country. In Dublin, they’ve increased by 39.2%, reinforcing the capital’s stronghold in the tech workforce.
When it comes to skills most in demand – there has been a significant 27% increase in demand for Cloud and Cybersecurity professionals, with remote only Cloud roles rising by 31.3%. Meanwhile, Galway and Waterford have positioned themselves as regional growth hubs, experiencing notable increases in demand for tech professionals: 38.2% and 40.3%, respectively.
Demand for AI professionals has increased by 3% nationally over the last 6 months. The demand for professionals with skills in Data Analytics has decreased by 8.6% and has increased by 9% for those with skills in Quantum, over the same period.
These trends suggest that while some emerging technologies are stabilising or declining, others – particularly those enabling secure, scalable, and remote digital infrastructure, are becoming increasingly central to business strategy.
Wendy Walsh, Talent and Organisation Lead for Accenture in Ireland, commented: “Ireland’s tech landscape is clearly evolving. The surge in demand for cloud and cybersecurity professionals, particularly in remote roles, reflects a growing reliance on resilient, scalable digital infrastructure.
“It’s also encouraging to see strong regional growth in places like Galway and Waterford, signalling a more balanced spread of tech opportunities nationwide. With hybrid and remote work now firmly embedded in how businesses operate, demand for skilled talent in these areas will only intensify – making upskilling a critical priority for both individuals and organisations alike. Equipping the workforce with the skills necessary to leverage emerging technologies will be vital for seizing opportunities, driving innovation, and fostering growth.”
