Samsung has quietly and unceremoniously released its latest budget smartphone champion, the Galaxy A17 5G.
We’ve been reporting on rumours surrounding the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G in recent weeks, so we had an inkling that a launch was imminent. What we didn’t expect was for Samsung to roll the phone out into shops with literally no fanfare.
So far we’ve spotted the phone on a few retailers, including Samsung Ireland. Here in the UK, we’ve seen it on the likes of Very, Argos, and Carphone Warehouse, where it’s selling for £199.

Samsung Galaxy A17 specs
The Samsung Galaxy A17 offers a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It runs on a Exynos 1330 processor, and is powered by a 5000mAh battery.
It also packs an IP54-certified design (the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G didn’t have anything), with tougher Gorilla Glass Victus protecting the front.
On the camera front, Samsung’s 50MP main sensor makes a return, but this time it’s joined by OIS. That addition generally proves to be huge in budget smartphones.

When it comes of software’s Samsung is promising six years of OS and security updates, which is one of the best you’ll find in the £200 category.
We found the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G’s immediate predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy A16, to be a solid budget option with an appealing design, a punchy AMOLED display, and an impressive software update promise.
We weren’t so impressed with the phone’s sluggish performance, middling battery life, and poor secondary cameras. We’ll be looking out for improvements in those departments for the Galaxy A17 5G.
