EA Sports FC 26 Revamps to Clubs Mode Detailed in New Deep Dive

EA has revealed more details about EA Sports FC 26 in the form of a deep dive on the improvements to its Clubs system. In a lengthy post, the company goes into quite a bit of detail about new features like revamped player progression with Archetypes, Club Rush Live events, and community-requested features like support for multiple Clubs.

Archetypes are the new headlining feature of the Clubs system in EA Sports FC 26. The systems allow for the unlocking, progression, and development of 13 distinct Archetypes for the in-game athletes. These are all inspired by a real-world football icon, and offer up a wide variety of play styles. The Archetypes are split into categories depending on a player’s position in the field, with 3 for Forwards, 4 for Midfielders, 4 for Defenders, and 2 for Goalkeepers.

Archetypes each feature a unique name, along with signature playstyles depending on the benefits offered by the Archetype. For example, a Midfielder can be a Maestro, which allows the player to unlock defences and create changes for their Forwards. The signature playstyle for the Maestro, in this example, is the Tiki Taka Pinged Pass, which focuses on constant passes as the team progresses towards the goal.

The system comes into play the moment a player enters the Clubs mode for the first time, allowing the first choice of Archetype. The other 12 can then be unlocked through Club Coins, FC Points, and Archetype Unlock consumable items that can be found as rewards. Archetypes can then be progressed by earning Archetype XP (AXP) through Clubs matches. The amount of AXP earned depends on the player’s role rating, their gameplay actions, and the match type. At launch, Archetypes will have a level cap of 50.

When it comes to live events, Clubs will feature new Rush tournaments where players can take part in single-elimination knockout tournaments that take place across four rounds. Players have a limited number of attempts to try and win a tournament; while a win allows the player to progress up the tournament brackets, a loss costs the player one attempt and sends them back to the first round of the tournament.

For players that like changing things up every now and then, EA Sports FC 26 will allow them to be a member of up to three clubs at any given time. These clubs can then be switched between at any moment through the Clubs menus.

The company has also revealed details of other gameplay improvements, including to the Be-A-Goalkeeper mode, which features revamped UI components and improved presentation, complete with unique camera and audio treatments. Be-A-Goalkeeper will also be available in a Clubs Rush event, allowing players to test their mettle against others.

Speaking of which, Competitive Gameplay is the mandatory gameplay mode for Clubs, with the mode focusing on offering fast-paced gameplay with reduced randomness and forms of assistance. The Competitive Gameplay mode focuses on responsiveness, consistency, and control.
