  • Samsung’s upcoming flip-style folding phones
  • Expected to launch in July
  • Could include regular and FE models for the first time

When it comes to flip-style folding phones, the first company most people think of is Samsung.

And with good reason: the company’s Galaxy Z Flip line helped propel modern flip phones into the mainstream, even if most of the best phones are still traditional clamshell devices.

However, as far as Tech Advisor is concerned, Samsung doesn’t hold the title of best flip phone right now. That award goes to Motorola’s Razr 60 Ultra, so Samsung has some catching up to do.

While last year’s Galaxy Z Flip was a little underwhelming, it looks like there’s plenty to be excited about regarding the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 be released?

In summary

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE could launch around 13 July
  • Should go on sale within a few weeks of being announced

Samsung will apparently launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE alongside the Z Fold 7 at an event in New York City in early July 2025.

The company is holding a series of Samsung Health events in the city, with the first one taking place on 13 July. Could we see the devices launch around then?

If that turns out to be true, it’d be slightly earlier than last year’s launch, which was on 10 July. As usual, we can expect the devices to go on sale shortly after they’re announced.

The company supposedly began production of the Z Flip 7 on 30 April, and a version of the Samsung Internet Browser has officially mentioned it, all adding to the feeling that the device isn’t far away.

After being known in some reports as the ‘Z Flip FE’, the Z Flip 7’s cheaper alternative has appeared on NBTC certification as the ‘Z Flip 7 FE’, suggesting that’ll be the final name.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 cost?

In summary

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 is likely to start at around £1,049/$1,099.99
  • Z Flip 7 FE pricing could be much more affordable

The Galaxy Z Flip starting prices have remained fairly consistent for a while now:

And it looks like it’ll be a similar story this year, with the regular Z Flip 7 rumoured to have the same prices as its predecessor in “most markets”.

That’s likely to include the UK and US, meaning it would undercut its key rival in the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra (from £1,099/$1,299).

The £1,049/$1,099.99 starting price is expected to get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while a more expensive model will double the latter to 512GB.

As for the Z Flip 7 FE, leaked Korean pricing suggests the phone will cost 1,485,000 KRW. That translates to around £800/$1,100, though these direct conversions are rarely accurate.

Another report suggests the phone will cost under €1,000 in Europe.

What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 have?

In summary

  • Z Flip 7 expected to get bigger cover and internal displays
  • Z Flip 7 FE is likely to be similar to Z Flip 6
  • Both could use Exynos chipsets

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE are expected to launch soon, and there are plenty of rumours and leaks regarding what to expect from Samsung’s next flip phones.

Design

The head of Samsung’s mobile division has reportedly tasked engineers with creating a foldable phone as slim as the Galaxy S series, aiming for a thickness close to 8.4mm when closed.

However, it doesn’t look like that device will be the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Rumours suggest that the phone will be 6.94mm thick (minus the camera bump) when open, the same as the Z Flip 6.

Elsewhere, CAD renders (since been deleted) showed a device that looks very similar to last year’s handset.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, its design is also expected to be very similar to the Z Flip 6.

Display

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 may introduce PHOLED (Phosphorescent OLED) technology to its display. It’s expected to enable reduced power consumption, thanks to better luminous efficiency compared to the AMOLED displays currently used.

However, challenges in developing blue PHOLED materials may delay their full integration into Samsung’s foldable lineup beyond this year.

In terms of sizing, both the cover and inner displays are rumoured to be 0.1 inches larger than the Z Flip 6, at 3.6 inches and 6.8 inches respectively. However, both would still be smaller than the Razr 60 Ultra, which boasts 4-inch and 7-inch panels.

However, a separate post mentioning a “full-screen cover display” suggests there could be a bigger increase in the size of the Z Flip 7’s cover screen.

The Z Flip 7’s crease will supposedly be “a bit less noticeable” than the Z Fold 7, though it’s not clear how it’ll compare to the Z Flip 6.

It’s expected that the Z Flip 7 FE will boast the exact same display as the Z Flip 6, aside from a lower max brightness of 1900 nits.

Performance

According to a “high-ranking Samsung Electronics official” and several news outlets, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 processor, rather than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The Exynos 2500, built on Samsung’s second-generation SF3 3nm process, is said to include a 10-core CPU with configurations of a 3.3 GHz prime core, two 2.75 GHz high-performance cores, five 2.36 GHz cores, and two 1.8 GHz efficiency cores. The chipset is also expected to feature an Xclipse 950 GPU based on AMD RDNA architecture.

While not yet confirmed, the Z Flip 7 is expected to be available in similar configurations to its predecessor – 12GB of RAM and 256- or 512GB of storage.

There are conflicting rumours regarding the Z Flip 7 FE’s chipset. The Exynos 2400, Exynos 2500 and Snapdragon 8 Elite have all been mentioned.

Cameras

One of the most exciting rumours surrounding the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the potential addition of a telephoto rear camera to join the existing main and ultrawide.

However, more recent leaks point to Samsung sticking with the same 50Mp main and 12Mp ultrawide, with no room for a dedicated zoom lens.

The primary camera has already seen a bump from the 12Mp to a 50Mp sensor with the launch of the Z Flip 6, improving overall image quality and low-light performance. As such, only minor tweaks to that camera would make most sense.

No changes to the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s 10Mp internal camera have been rumoured, so the same sensor is most likely at this stage. You’ll be using the main or ultrawide camera to take selfies anyway.

The Z Flip 7 FE is rumoured to also get a 50Mp main camera, but the specs of any other lenses are currently unknown.

Battery & Charging

It doesn’t look like charging speeds on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be getting any upgrades.

Certification listings on China’s 3C agency appear to confirm that the Z Flip 7 (model SM-F7660) supports 9V/2.77A charging, which equates to the same 25W charging speed as its predecessor. The phone will reportedly ship without a charger but remain compatible with Samsung’s ageing EP-TA800 adapter, which was originally introduced with the Galaxy S10.

Nothing has been revealed regarding wireless charging, either, so we’d expect that to stay at 15W.

What is changing, however, is the battery capacity: the Z Flip 7 is expected to receive a modest bump compared to the Z Flip 6’s 4000mAh cell. One source suggests 4174mAh, while another says 4300mAh.

Either way, it’s likely to be down compared to the Razr 60 Ultra‘s 4700mAh capacity. It also still falls short of the 4,500mAh threshold that Samsung appears to require before enabling faster 45W charging, as seen on other devices like the Galaxy A36.

The potential battery capacity of the Z Flip 7 FE is rumoured to be 4000mAh, while it’s expected to also have 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. That’s identical to the Z Flip 6.

With the potential integration of that aforementioned PHOLED technology, overall power consumption could decrease, allowing the battery to last longer on a single charge, despite the phone’s compact form factor.

Samsung remains cautious in adopting Silicon-Carbon battery tech, which could allow for larger capacities without increasing the physical size of the phone.

Software

With Android 16 now available on Pixel phones, the Z Flip 7 phones are expected to ship running Samsung’s skin that’s based on it: One UI 8.

Leaks suggest that One UI 8 will be a massive overhaul compared to previous versions. Expect a redesigned user interface with new icons, animations, and improved multitasking capabilities, tailored to foldable devices.

Hopefully, all of the flagship Galaxy AI features will make it to both models, but that hasn’t been revealed at this stage.

While not confirmed, expect Samsung to continue with its class-leading commitment to seven years of OS and security updates for the regular Flip 7. The Flip 7 FE is likely to get at least six years, but may match its more premium sibling.
