England slumped to a miserable 3-1 defeat at the hands of Senegal at the City Ground on Tuesday to round off a poor international fortnight and the problems for Thomas Tuchel appear to be clear
England are failing to play together as a group, both Ian Wright and Roy Keane have claimed after a miserable international fortnight. The Three Lions slipped to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Tuesday evening.
That followed a 1-0 win against Andorra last week where Thomas Tuchel’s men were booed off at the half-time break. Former England striker Ian Wright has major concerns for the side, and claimed that none of the players were on the same wavelength.
Speaking on ITV, he said: “I don’t want to make excuses but ten changes coming off the back of a poor result against Andorra, you want some stability in the team, familiarity. You want to play well, get it going and maybe bring the subs on that way.
“From the start, there wasn’t no cohesion, weren’t really clicking. I thought one-on-ones were very good and the crossing.
“But we wasn’t passing through their lines. We wasn’t causing them enough problems and even the goal that we scored was because of their indecisive play cutting back in the middle. I think they [Senegal] deserved to win it but I think we have quite a long way to go at the moment when you look at the way we played.”

Colleague Roy Keane also gave his verdict and suggested that all was not well behind the scenes. He replied: “England, on one hand, you don’t want to overreact but the signs aren’t great. It’s been a bad couple of days. I know they won the other day but the rhythm wasn’t there and tonight again, they had the dream start and go 1-0 up.
“It won’t be a good summer break for the manager. He’ll be concerned. I look at this England group, I know we’re on the outside looking in, I think there’s something amiss there.
“They don’t look like a happy group. Obviously they’ll be disappointed with the result, I don’t mean in that sense. But are they all in it together? Is there that proper spirit amongst the group? I’m not so sure.”

And while Wright and Keane believe something is not quite right between the players, the former has claimed that it is Tuchel’s responsibility to find a solution before the rocky start to his reign turns into a real issue.
“It’s best that he finds out as early as possible simply because he knows the job he’s got in hand,” Wright said. “And now he’ll realise it won’t be as easy as he thought, I didn’t think he’d believe it would be an easy job because we’ve got such good players.
“But you have to get these players to gel, you have to get them playing with the kind of freedom we see Senegal playing with.”
