Survey launched with West Ham fans suggesting ways to improve matchday atmosphere and experience

A survey has been launched with West Ham fans suggesting ways to improve matchday experience and atmosphere inside London Stadium.

It warns that the club’s traditional fanbase is rapidly declining due to dissatisfaction with the matchday experience at the London Stadium, with many long-time fans abandoning their season tickets. This trend threatens the club’s future, prompting urgent action.

To address this, Hammers United, in collaboration with other fan groups and West Ham’s social media community, has launched an independent survey, hosted by the FSA, to gather fans’ views and suggestions for improving the matchday experience.

The goal is to collect at least 6,000 responses to create a strong mandate for presenting recommendations to the club, aiming to retain existing fans and bring back those who have stopped attending.

Questions included:

– How would you rate the overall matchday atmosphere at the London Stadium?

– Compared with the Boleyn Ground, how would you describe the matchday atmosphere at the London Stadium?

– How do you think the atmosphere at the London Stadium compares with the other stadiums in the Premier League?

– What do you think are the main reasons that prevent the atmosphere at the London Stadium from being better? (please choose all that apply)

– Stadium layout/distance from the pitch

– Lack of cohesive groups within the stadium

– Stewarding/policing stopping standing and singing

– Lack of designated singing section(s)

– Too many non-regular/tourist supporters

– High ticket prices

– Poor team performances

– Lack of tradition/identity at the London Stadium

– Have you ever considered stopping attending home matches at the London Stadium because of the atmosphere or matchday experience?

– A dedicated family area for those wanting a more child-friendly experience

– A neutral/tourist area, separate from home fans

– The continued production fan-led, designed and funded tifo displays/banners/flags at home matches

– What one change would make the biggest difference to improving the match day atmosphere?

– What should be done with the wall between home fans and away fans in the Sir Trevor Brooking stand?

– Should West Ham United women play at the London Stadium?

– How likely would you be to attend a West Ham United women’s game if it was played at the London Stadium?

– If you would like to be involved in further discussions or fan actions to improve the matchday experience, please leave your email address below

Do you believe that the matchday experience at our home games is as good as it should be?

A blog on the Hammers United website: West Ham United has long been an integral part of the community, heritage, soul and fabric of East London and much of Essex.

Our fans have a reputation for loyalty, and pride in our traditions.

We have faced many struggles over the years and we have always stood tall in the face of adversity.

But right now our very existence is under threat –
it’s not “on the horizon” and it’s not “coming down the line”…
It’s here with us right now!
This is not hyperbole, so be in no doubt – our traditional support is haemorrhaging !

Many thousands of time served West Ham fans have already walked away, and more are joining them.

If this continues unabated, the ramifications for the Club we all love will be catastrophic.

It’s happening on our watch and we simply cannot stand by and do nothing.

We owe it not only to ourselves but to those who came before us, and our children and grandchildren who, if the natural order is to be preserved, should be coming after us.

We know it’s only to be expected that some fans will stop attending games and for a variety of different reasons, but the sheer number of fans who have given up their season tickets over the last 9 years raises the suspicion that there is one common denominator – dissatisfaction with the matchday experience at the London Stadium.

Everyone, including the Club, knows that the London Stadium leaves a lot to be desired, and on so many fronts.

We also know that there are varied and differing opinions on how to improve things.

The Survey

Our task is to gather the views, opinions and suggestions from the fan base, present these to the Club, and then work together towards making real and worthwhile improvements to the matchday experience, which we hope will stop more fans from walking away, and convince a sizeable number of those fans who no longer attend games to come back.

So with the support of other fans’ groups and the West Ham Social media world, we have worked together to produce a survey aimed at (ideally match going) fans to see what changes they want at the London Stadium.

The survey will be completely independent from the Club and will be hosted by the FSA.

Let’s Hit 6000

Our target is to get at least 6,000 replies – this would then be seen as a genuine representation of the thoughts and feelings of West Ham fans, and will provide a mandate for the fans’ groups to make recommendations to the Club.

It is only with your help and support that the damage being done to our fan base can be reversed.

So please take a couple of minutes of your time to complete this survey which is live now at the link below

‘The worst’ – West Ham fans respond after being asked about atmosphere at the London Stadium

As mentioned, a survey has been launched with West Ham fans suggesting ways to improve matchday atmosphere and experience…

@nmengland: Our all time bad home record and ultra defensive style of play last season were the biggest factors in the lack of atmosphere. When we were playing well & competing with the big sides & in Europe, the atmosphere was fantastic.

@NWLondonHammer: Done. The wall can be either perspex or netting – so long as it’s gone!

@Bkasparas: Bill Remfrey putting on Whistling Jack Smith at exactly 145pm. Geoff Hurst coming out soon afterwards to check stud lengths. Percy Dalton’s bloke running out of nuts halfway along the Chicken Run before he got anywhere near the North Bank. Yes please. #Nostalgia .

@moorehurstpeter: In comparison to other premier league clubs and particularly other London clubs, we are definitely still the poor relation, reflected by the match day experience.

@ianmckee58: Biggest issues with the match day experience aren’t addressed in this. Basically trying to promote moving people to create a cheap version of the HF or AA.

@hornchurchammer: All we can do is fill it. All HU can do is give it to the board in the hope they take on what will be said. Forget relegations mate, the club and its support are in a big state of apathy and it’s the worst I have known it to be in my 40 odd year. They need to engage.

@TonyFinnComms: Done. We can’t moan nothing changes if we don’t take part in things like this. Best of luck.

@StevenDay41176: Good work- we need to do something as it is going downhill atmosphere wise – the one thing that makes it worth being there live- without it may well watch at home

@KB_WHU: Half of you will sit online and moan about the stadium but do nothing about it. Jump on this and hopefully make a change for our beautiful club ⚒️
