Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of his upcoming tour dates due to a brain disorder that requires him to undergo immediate treatment.
In a statement on Instagram, the legendary singer and writer also known as “Piano Man” said he would be “cancelling all scheduled concerts following a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).·
The statement continues: “This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance.” The letter to fans on his Instagram page, said that “under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”
His health, a priority
Joel, 79, said he is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritising his health.
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel said.
For all those with tickets to a Billy Joel concert, the statement says nobody needs to take any action as all tickets will be reimbursed automatically.
A full recovery
The same posts list all the concerts cancelled between April 26th, 2025, and July 3rd, 2026. Seventeen shows were cancelled in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” Joel said. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans.”
He assured that he is “expected to make a full recovery.”
Joel tripped and fell during a concert in late February 2025. Fans alerted the world through uploaded videos on sites like TikTok and YouTube, but at the time, they had no clue there was something wrong with his health.
