One UI 7 Update Battery Drain Issue Reported

Some Samsung Galaxy users are less than happy with the battery performance of their smartphones following the update to One UI 7.

It took a while for Samsung to finally get its act in order with One UI 7, but it’s now available on way more devices than the Samsung Galaxy S25 series it launched on. There have been issues, however, particularly when it comes to battery life.

As a new report from Android Authority points out, a number of Galaxy users are reporting battery drain issues following the update to Samsung’s new software.

Some users of older (but certainly not old) devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S24+ are reporting that they can no longer last through the day on a single charge, whereas the phone could previously last a full six or seven hours of screen on time on One UI 6.

Indeed, in our own Galaxy S24+ review we noted that “it comfortably lasted two days on numerous occasions”.

Even current Galaxy phones are struggling. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 remains Samsung’s current premium foldable option, and thus its most expensive phone. However, Reddit user slewyn11 reckons that it can no longer last beyond around five hours of screen on time.

How to fix One UI 7 bad battery life

The bad news is that this sounds like an issue that will only be truly fixed once Samsung addresses it with a firmware update.

However, there are ways to help extend your Galaxy phone’s battery life until that point. Use Samsung’s Settings menu search to find each of the following.

There are a few display options that could potentially help your battery life, such as switching the refresh rate down to Standard (though we’d be loathe to give up on that silky 120Hz refresh rate).

You could also turn the Always on Display off, or even drop the resolution to FHD+ if you’re using a QHD-capable phone like the Samsung Galaxy S24+ or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The nuclear option here would be to attempt a complete factory reset and set up afresh in the hope that this nixes the issue. Don’t forget to backup before you do so.

Samsung’s built-in Power Saving mode will stretch out your battery life, too, by restricting background app activity and syncing, as well as limiting things like screen brightness and location services.

None of these methods are ideal, of course, and we really need Samsung to announce a One UI 7 update to eliminate these battery drain issues altogether.
