AI innovators called to tackle challenges in healthcare

The deadline for applications is 29 August 2025. Winners will be announced in October.

Health Innovation Hub Ireland (HIHI) is launching a call dedicated to AI in healthcare.

The call is a national initiative supporting the development and testing of AI solutions which could have a positive impact on Irish healthcare.

The Hub is welcoming start-ups, Irish companies, international companies with an Irish presence, researchers, clinicians and innovators developing AI-powered healthcare products or services to apply.

Applicants whose products solve a recognised healthcare challenge, whose products are market ready with the required regulatory approval or have products in development with a prototype available for consideration, are all invited by the health innovation incubator.

Successful applicants will get the opportunity to pilot their solutions in clinical settings, with access to the HIHI’s national support network.

After conducting a pilot or clinical evaluation project, winners will receive a final project report and a published case study, which HIHI said can be useful as evidence of efficacy, value and impacts for potential investors and customers.

The deadline for applications is 29 August 2025. A shortlist will be announced in late September and overall winners in October.

“We are standing at the edge of a transformation in Irish healthcare – where AI doesn’t just support medicine, it redefines it,” said Dr Michael Twomey, a senior clinical research manager and lead programme manager for the HIHI AI call.

“This is more than innovation – it’s a shift toward a future where intelligence is augmented, care is predictive and health systems are empowered to heal at scale. AI in healthcare isn’t the next step – it’s the leap that will reshape what’s possible for every patient, provider and community,” he added.

Earlier this year, winners of the first-ever ‘Green-tech in healthcare’ call, organised by HIHI, were announced. The competition, described as the “first step” in tackling the research and innovation gap in this area, invited products which could disrupt the stream of waste produced by the healthcare industry.
