CIA and Department of Justice confirm there are psychics that have been instrumental in helping police solve crimes | Photo: Kittyfly / Shutterstock
Andre Daigle, 27, went missing on June 9, 1987, after a night of drinks and pool with friends, following which, the New Orleans resident was never seen alive again. Four days later, Andre’s sister Elise, who lived out in California, went to psychic Rosemarie Kerr of Cypress with her brother’s photo, whose body and killers were found 13 days later thanks to the clairvoyant.
Kerr closed her eyes, placed a finger on Andre’s picture, and saw visions of Andre’s truck thousands of miles away in Slidell, in the southern state of Louisiana. “I told Elise she should get someone to that area as quickly as possible,” said Kerr, who at that point knew Andre was dead, the Los Angeles Times reported on February 7, 1988.
To make a long story short, police found the truck exactly where Kerr had said it was, being driven by a man the psychic had described. The Los Angeles Times covered the trial in New Orleans, saying it “took a strange twist when a California psychic testified she helped crack a homicide case 2,000 miles away.” New Orleans police records confirm Kerr’s accurate predictions about the location of Daigle’s body and how he was killed. Andre’s murderers, James Copeland and Clifford Andrews, confessed to the crime and described it in the same way Kerr had envisioned it.
The US Department of Justice on psychics
In researching the validity of psychics in police work, viraltrendingcontent came across a highly surprising and unexpected 5-page US DoJ report published in 1993 entitled “Psychics and Police Work.”
“The usefulness of psychics in police investigations is controversial, but psychics have long been and will undoubtedly continue to be involved in unsolved criminal investigations,” it reads.
The Department of Justice document compares the work of psychics and detectives, saying “both base their work on intuition to some extent, and then they specifically mention one psychic who they say helped police in thousands of cases.
“Dorothy Allison (1924-1999) of Nutley, New Jersey, has assisted police in more than 4,000 investigations and has received many letters from law enforcement agencies describing how she helped them,” the department says. As reported by the New York Times in 1999, “Allison became public knowledge in 1968, when she told the Nutley police that they could find the body of a missing boy in a drainage pipe.”
The DoJ described Allison as unique because, unlike most psychics who ask for an article or photo of a victim or to visit the victim’s home or the scene of the crime, “Allison asks only for the person’s date and place of birth and the date and location last seen.”
The CIA has something to say as well
In an August 2000 CIA document entitled “Use of Psychics in Law Enforcement,” the US intelligence agency acknowledged that psychics have been helpful to police in many cases and outlined some guidelines on when and how to deal with them.
“Several cases are cited where psychics have provided information that was helpful to law enforcement, contributing to the successful resolution of cases,” the CIA confirms. “These examples are used to suggest that using psychics can be legitimate when traditional methods fail.”
The CÏA document lists what it says are notable cases where psychics participated, providing specific, actionable intelligence.

- Dr. Douglas Dean and the Newark Police Department (New Jersey)
- Dr. Dean conducted a study where a psychic helped solve over 30 cases, many involving homicide.

Many prey on vulnerable people, who unwittingly surrender information that the fraudster uses to convince them they are predicting or envisioning something, but that said, here are some recent legitimate cases viraltrendingcontent has found in the media where psychics played a role in solving cases, as confirmed by police.
