Google Pixel phones are popular for many reasons, including regular Pixel Drops full of new features.
The brand has got into a rhythm of a new Pixel Drop every month. April’s update, however, contains only one new feature, which is far from the typical 15-20 we’re used to seeing.
So although it’s a quiet month, Pixel phone users can still revel in the new Gemini Live feature, which may completely change the way you interact with the AI assistant.
You can now show Gemini what you’re looking at via the phone’s camera or share your screen to ask a question or get advice. The short video example shows someone asking what type of shark she’s seeing at the aquarium, which is pretty neat – it’s like having that quiz expert friend who knows everything with you all the time.
The camera and screen sharing feature is available for all Pixel 9 users (all models) for free, or to anyone with a Gemini Advanced subscription – so it’s not exclusive to Pixel 9 phones.
April’s Pixel Drop did include another feature outside of phones, but it’s more limited as it’s specific to Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3. You’ll also need to be connected to a Pixel 9 via Bluetooth in the US and to be speaking English.
If you happen to tick all these boxes, then Scam Detection – an existing Pixel phone feature, now coming to watches – is available to you. It’ll help you to avoid calls from nefarious sources, although Google admits it’s not 100% accurate.
Google says: “Your Pixel Watch alerts you to a scam mid-call when it receives a Bluetooth signal from your Pixel 9 Phone. So if you’re on the go, you can be alerted to a scam call without needing to take out your phone.”
