We’re multiple generations into PlayStation and Xbox having featured system-wide achievement systems in the form of Trophies and, well, Achievements, but in all that time, Nintendo has refused to join the party. Of course, some had hoped that with the upcoming Switch 2, the company would finally introduce something similar, but it turns out that’s not going to happen.
The same was confirmed by Nintendo’s vice president of player and product experience Bill Trinen when asked by Polygon if the Switch 2 will finally have its own equivalent of Xbox’s Achievements or PlayStation’s Trophies. “Nope,” he said.
Those hoping for a taste of achievements in Nintendo titles will still be able to do just that with the enhanced Switch 2 re-releases for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but system-wide achievements will remain elusive, it seems. Given how Nintendo has operated over the years, however, it doesn’t exactly come as a shock.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, with pre-orders kicking off on April 9 everywhere except the US, thanks to the potential impact of tariffs on pricing.
