Do these Chelsea managers not learn from recent history? Do they not do their homework? Do they not care what reaction they get from Chelsea fans? Do they not do the simple task of reading the room?
Graham Potter telling us every week after another terrible performance that ‘the boys gave everything’ is probably one of the most triggering quotes from the last three years.
Mauricio Pochettino coming in and saying the same thing but in different words last season, also had the same effect with the fan base.
We get it, you’re protecting your players, or whatever. But I’m sorry, there comes a point where you need to perhaps start using a bit of tough love rather than delusion. And maybe that point comes when you have won just 2 games in the last 11 in all competitions?
Enzo Maresca after the Villa defeat:
“We didn’t deserve to lose.
“They gave everything.”
I’m sorry Enzo, but if any one single person fully believes that we deserved to win that game yesterday, then please pass me what you are smoking.
I think we ALL knew we were losing that game from the minute we scored our goal, no? That’s how poor things are right now. Protect your players, fine, but don’t insult our intelligence.
Granted, we started very well and we did play well for the first 20 minutes. But that was more about Villa not turning up, being awful, passing it to our players most of the time, and then finally turning up. When Villa started playing well and closed those huge gaps in midfield, Chelsea started playing poor. I lost count of the amount of mistakes, lapses of concentration, and passes from our players to them.
We absolutely did NOT deserve to win. At the very best, we perhaps deserved a draw, but even that is at a real stretch. But there is no debate for me in whether we deserved to win or not so Maresca, drop your delusion, all it is doing is pushing the fan base further against you – and that is often impossible to claw back from.
I am the first to say that I don’t care how we play if we get a win. So it is only fair for me to point out when we play badly and don’t win as well.
Villa even had more possession than us with 53%, yet ‘Maresca-ball’ is meant to see us dominating games!? There was very little between attempts at goal and on target either. So this was absolutely NOT a game that Chelsea deserved to win. There only looked like one team winning this since the first goal, and it wasn’t the side who got that goal. We had chances, sure, but Villa looked much more of a threat than us.
As this article is about Maresca, what on earth has Josh Acheampong said to you? And what about Tyrique George who looked bright against Brighton? What’s the point in even promoting these lads to the senior squad if you aren’t going to use them?
Maresca, my beef is above you, so please, don’t start making me turn on you every week now as well. As I’ve said, I won’t be calling for another manager sacking until things are addressed ABOVE them, and I keep that stance.
But he has SO much to do to convince me.
